To celebrate National Podiatry Week, we sat down with Neda from Podiatry Beyond to learn more about the story behind her clinic, what she loves most about being a podiatrist, and why she recommends Ascent shoes to her patients. She also shares her favourite range, what makes it stand out, and why she values Ascent for offering shoes designed to suit all widths, sizes, and styles, so there's something for every foot.
The idea of Podiatry Beyond started when I was in the COVID lockdowns and we had a little more time to reflect on the overall patient, staff and practitioner experience. At the time, I felt like things were very rushed and very sterile. So I envisoned creating a clinic like Podiatry Beyond that obviously didn't compromise on the patient experience but really highlighted the importance of a calm, serene and less sterile environment and that way patients felt relaxed and really prioritised coming in and seeing a podiatrist.
Our approach really highlights the importance of gathering an accurate subjective history. We believe that if we take the time to get to know our patients well, it will ultimately lead to better assessments and help achieve realistic outcomes by creating a treatment plan that the patient can actually adhere to and that suits their lifestyle.
So Ascent really applies features that you would typically see in a sports shoe. I love the fact that they often incorporate a degree of arch support. There are varying levels of cushioning with really great shock absorption. The materials they use for the upper are often very premium, and the products are all quite lightweight as well, with a very stable heel counter.
I love the fact that in some cases, I am able to help a patient in the first appointment. They might walk in with an issue, and for example, an ingrown toenail, we're about to assess it, treat it, and they will walk out significantly happier. And then in some cases, I have to go on a little bit more of a journey for more complex or chronic issues, and within that journey, we often identify other factors that need to be addressed, so we're not just putting our blinkers on and addressing foot pain, but we're addressing other issues as well.
One of my favourite products from the Ascent range is the Ascent Stratus, and it's a shoe that I will often recommend if a patient needs a leather enclosed pair of shoes and they want it to look a little less corporate and more sneaker-like. So with the Ascent Stratus, it has the Diamond Grip SRC Slip Resistance sole, so very handy for hospitality workers, nursing, pharmacy, and a lot of other occupations. But it also has quite a bit of depth, it has that stable heel counter, arch support, and its also got a really nice soft leather upper material. It also comes in laces, zip-up, and in varying widths as well.
Ascent's range of school, work, casual, and safety shoes really have something for many different foot types, and they can cater to a lot of different presenting complaints. I love the fact that they have adjustability, with laces and zippers if needed, and they have removable inner soles.
